AI for eBay sellers and resellers: honest listings and calm buyer replies
Let Claude draft buyer replies, case responses and condition-accurate listings while you check every detail and send it on eBay yourself.
Reselling on eBay is a lot of small writing jobs. Every item needs its own listing. Every buyer asks something slightly different. Claude can draft those words fast, from the notes you give it. The rule stays the same: the AI drafts, you send. On eBay that also means the AI never decides what condition an item is in. You do.
The admin that eats your week
- Buyer questions and offers: measurements, flaws, bundles and lowball offers.
- Returns and "item not as described" cases: reading the claim, checking your photos and replying with care.
- Listing descriptions: one-of-a-kind second-hand and vintage items, each with its own condition notes.
- Shipping problems: late, lost or damaged parcels and the messages that follow.
- Sourcing notes: what you paid, where it came from and what to check before listing.
What AI can draft for you
Claude can draft replies to questions, a polite counter to an offer, a calm answer to a return or case, and a listing from your own notes. You inspect the item, write the condition notes from what you see, and decide on refunds. You send every message and publish every listing on eBay yourself. Don't give an AI tool your eBay login.
Copy these prompts
Keep a Claude Project with your shop facts: postage times, return terms, how you grade condition and how you measure items.
Write an eBay listing description from my notes only. Copy my condition notes exactly as written. Don't add any flaw, feature, brand, age, material or measurement that isn't in my notes. If something a buyer would expect is missing, list it under [ASK ME] at the end instead of guessing. Item notes: [paste] My condition notes: [paste]
Draft a reply to this eBay buyer message using my shop facts. Keep it short and friendly. No email address, phone number, social media or links, and no offer to complete the sale outside eBay. If the answer isn't in my facts or listing, write [CHECK]. Buyer message: [paste] Listing details: [paste]
A buyer has opened a return or "item not as described" request. Summarise what they say is wrong. Compare it with my listing text and condition notes, and list what I should check in my photos. Then draft a calm reply I can review. Don't admit fault or offer a refund unless I write my decision here: [decision] Buyer's message: [paste] My listing: [paste]
An example week
Here's an example of how a week could look. It is a sketch, not a result anyone measured.
- Monday: photograph and inspect a batch of items. Write rough condition notes by hand or in your phone.
- Tuesday: paste the notes into your Project and draft the listings. Read each one against the item before you publish it.
- Wednesday: clear buyer questions and offers in one sitting. Read every draft, then send it on eBay.
- Thursday: handle any return or shipping problem. Decide first, then ask for the wording.
- Friday: update your sourcing notes and add a rule for any correction you made twice.
Where the course helps most
- Day 2: write the instructions your assistant reads every time, including "never invent condition details".
- Day 5: write down the answers you give every week, from postage to measurements.
- Day 12: the hard emails, including complaints, refunds and saying no to an offer.
- Day 24: run the checker on a day of drafts before anything goes out.

Play by the marketplace's rules
- eBay's member-to-member contact policy bars sharing email addresses, phone numbers, payment details, social media or links in messages.
- The same policy bars offers to buy or sell outside eBay, spam, threats and profanity.
- eBay's item description policy says descriptions must be accurate and the condition must match the item in the title, description and item specifics.
- Claims like "Made in USA" must be accurate and backed by evidence. Leave them out unless you can prove them.
- For return and case deadlines, check eBay's current help pages before you reply.
